Hello Chetan,

Welcome to MoneyTalk.

We'll certainly guide you on stock market investment.

To begin with, you will need a DEMAT account. You can open one with any of the brokerage houses- ICICI , Indiabull, Sharekhan, Geojit, Karvy etc. The brokerage and features offered will vary -for example Geojit have lowest brokerage, but I am not happy with the trading interface, ICICI is very expensive, Indiabulls might be a right compromise.. Call one of these branches (numbers at their websites) and ask them to send a rep.

Thanks a lot....!!

I do have a DEMAT account with ICICI. As you are telling its expensive, do you suggest that I need to open one more at Indiabulls or elsewhere? In that case, can I transfer the shares attached to this demat account to the new one? Might be a very basic question.... sorry for that Smile

I am not sure if one can transfer shares between multiple demat accounts without any expense... Two accounts will be treated separately and it will be as if selling from one account and buying in another (I guess, which will at the least, attract brokerage fee)

If you already have I feel you can start trading using that for now.

At your convenience open another account, in future buy at that account instead of buying at ICICI, over a period of time you would have sold all shares in ICICI, and purchased new ones in the new account, eventually you can close the ICICI one.

But then, unless you trade in large volumes the small difference in brokerage wont make much impact...
