SIPs or Bulk investment in ELSS

Post by raveeshkumarb on Thu Jan 31 2008, 22:57

Tax savings is the last thing which comes to mind for the working professional in a financial year. Here particularly while purchasing ELSS (Equity Linked Savings Schemes) one usually goes for the bulk investment at the end of the year when NAVs of funds are usually high. Why not to opt for SIP(systematic investment plan) where you contribute a small amount each month towards ELSS and NAVs are gradually increased, also sometimes it takes care of ups and downs of stock market? I would definitely suggest SIP. But remember each SIP purchase or regular purchase invites a lock in period of 3 years.

What is your take on this?

again specifying....we small investors are lured by equity and thts wht brokers take advantage of...only a small amount of yyour tax planing investment should go into equity or ELSS..ideally only 1/3rd.....there are better tax planning instruments our age old...PPF,LIC(check out the plans in LIC they have really improved its not the same as it was few years back),NSCs these all will give you fixed returns to max extend.....

In the past 10 years ELSS have given very good returns than the traditional ones. Since ELSS have lock in period of 3 years fund manager need not have huge cash lying for frequent redemptions.
